Confirm your email
Finish an account you created with an email address by opening the confirmation link, and know what to do when the link no longer works.

When this applies
This applies only when you chose Create an account with email and the screen answered "Check {email} and open the link to finish creating your account." An installation that does not ask for confirmation signs you in at once, and you can skip this page.
Until you open the link, the account exists and has no session: you are not signed in anywhere.
Confirm
- Open the message sent to the address you registered.
- Open the link in it. It leads to a screen titled Confirming your address, with the line "One moment while your account is finished."
- Wait. There is nothing to fill in.
Expected outcome: the account is finished and you are signed in, on Overview. The link carries a one-time credential, which the screen removes from the address bar immediately so it does not stay in your browser history.
When the link does not work
If the link was already used, has expired, or arrived incomplete, the screen shows "That link is no longer valid. Sign in to ask for another one." with the link Go to sign in. When the provider refuses the one-time credential of the link, the sentence is "Your session expired. Sign in to continue." instead, with the same link; it means the same thing.
- Choose Go to sign in.
- Try Sign in with email with the address and password you registered. If the account was in fact confirmed, this signs you in.
- If you do not remember the password, use Forgot your password?.
The screen never says whether an address is registered, including when it fails. Someone who did not receive the message learns nothing from the failure.
What a confirmed address is used for
An address confirmed by your provider is what lets you accept an invitation sent to that address. On Sign-in and sessions, each sign-in method shows Address confirmed or Address not confirmed.
Next action
