Rename, archive, restore and delete a project
What each project action in Beyond Projects does, who can use it, and what it never does. Archiving and deleting remove nothing in Workspace, Delegate or CDN.

Before you start
Open the project. The actions are at the bottom of its screen, and you see only the ones your role allows:

A Developer and a Viewer see no actions.
Rename
- Choose Rename, change Project name and choose Save name.
Expected outcome: "The project was renamed." The project identity does not change, so nothing that refers to the project breaks. A Delegate connected to Beyond Projects takes the new name the next time someone arrives there from Projects.
Archive
- Choose Archive. The confirmation says: "Archiving hides the project and stops new development environments. Nothing is deleted in Workspace, Delegate or CDN, and you can restore it."
- Choose Archive again to confirm, or Cancel.
Expected outcome: "The project was updated." The project shows Archived, leaves the Active list and appears under Show → Archived. While it is archived:
- its three entries say "Not available while the project is archived or deleted.";
- no new development environment is opened for it;
- existing source, task history in Delegate and releases in CDN stay exactly as they were.
Restore
Choose Restore. There is no confirmation.
- An archived project becomes active again.
- A deleted project becomes archived, while its recovery period lasts. Choose Restore once more to make it active.
After the period, restoring a deleted project is refused and the screen says: "The project is not in a state that allows this, for example already archived, already deleted, or past its recovery period."
Delete
- Choose Delete project. The confirmation says: "The project is marked deleted and stays recoverable for the period this installation configured. Published CDN releases, task history and source volumes are not removed by this action."
- Choose Delete this project to confirm, or Cancel.
Expected outcome: the project shows Deleted and "Recoverable until" with a date and time. It appears under Show → Deleted. A deleted project cannot be renamed, and nothing new can be linked to it.
When deletion is refused
If the screen says "This installation has no recovery period configured, so projects cannot be deleted yet.", nothing was deleted. How long a deleted project stays recoverable is configured by the people who run the installation, and Projects refuses to delete at all rather than invent a period. Archive the project instead.
"Someone changed this project"
Every action is decided from the version of the project on your screen. If someone else renamed, archived, restored or deleted the project after you loaded it, your action is refused and the screen says:
"Someone changed this project while you were looking at it. The current version is shown now; nothing of yours was applied."
Nothing was lost and nothing was half-applied. Read the project as it is now, then decide whether your action still makes sense and do it again. The same happens when you had the project open in two tabs.
Limits
- After its recovery period a deleted project can no longer be restored. Projects has no action that erases a project, and none that transfers it to another organization.
- Archiving and deleting do not remove members, development access or anything in Beyond Accounts.
